About Me

My Photo
I'm the not so simple housewife. I cook, I clean, I serve, I decorate, I teach, I bake, I shop, I dress-up...I feel like I do it all! I love the Lord and He is the reason and purpose behind all I do. I believe that everything we do should be service as unto the Lord and so as a housewife that is my ultimate goal. My life isn't so simple, but I love it!

Happy Halloween!

Oh how I've missed you!  I've been going through Blogger withdrawls the past few days as my laptop decided to die on me.  It wouldn't turn on or charge and I was freaking out!  I finally hit it enough times to get it to turn on, but it won't charge.  I've got power, but I'm not sure this is going to last...  Now if only I could find a way to make money blogging I could get a new computer!  Things to think about~let me know if you have any ideas!

I just wanted to stop by today and say hello real quick!  I'll probably post something a little more substantial a little later today once I get my to do list done, but for now Happy Halloween!

Yesterday Josh and I got our first pumpkin together as a couple.  Almost 6 years together and we've never bought a pumpkin...what a monuments occasion!  It is a fairy tale pumpkin (so Cinderella right?!) and I love it!  Josh is always teasing me about only buying things that are cute, well I found a cute pumpkin and I couldn't be more pleased!  Add a little burlap and you've got yourself a little touch of fall!

Fabulous Fall Link Party

I am so in need of some Fall inspiration!  I'm kind of stuck in Summer and so is my home.  The beach, shells, and sun are a fading memory and so I know it is time for some change!  Yesterday I made a good steps towards fall.  First I framed some fall photos I took and secondly I put away all of my summer shoes...but that's as far as I've gotten.  HELP me PLEASE!

I want to have a fabulous fall...I've been dreaming of it for sometime, but now I need your help to make it a reality!  Here is how you can help:

  • Link up all of your posts relating to fall!  Anything fall-like is welcome!  Crafts, decor, food, ect.  If it is fall I would love to see it!
  • Follow me and like me on facebook so we can stay connected!  I love new blog friends!
  • Visit some of the other fall links and be inspired alongside me!

I have a weekly blog party called {Re}create Into Something New every Wednesday! I'd love for you to share more of your ideas with me every week!

Fabulous Fall: Photos!

I've been so reluctant to get into the fall spirit, but it is most definitely overdue!  I've been living in denial..missing summer.  It is time for my home to transition away from the sea shells and beachy decor to the lovely season of fall.

Step 1: Put up some fall photos.

Josh and I went on a fall hike with his mom and her boyfriend to celebrate her birthday.  While we were out, we took some great photos.  I thought what better way to slowly transition into fall by putting up some photos.  I've had this empty frame hanging on the wall for longer than I'd like to admit.  After our pastor commented on the lovely "photos," I knew it was time to put something in there!

I simply printed the photos and filled the frames.  No more Sonoma with starfish (see I said the beachy things needed to go).

I'm starting to move in the direction of fall, but I think I may need some help...a good kick in the pants! So tomorrow I'm going to be hosting a Fabulous Fall link party to collect some fall ideas to spur on the transformation of my home!  Please stop by tomorrow to share all of your fall decor, food, and more!

Cake Leftovers Solution-Cake Balls!

Leftovers?  Yes these were leftovers, but now they are something new and presentable!

Leftovers have always been trying for me.  Ever since I was younger, I never wanted to eat the same thing for two meals in a row.  For that very reason I think it is important to be creative with leftovers.  Now cake leftovers are in a different category, but they still can present a problem.  You serve a cake and then a few days latter have someone else over and you can't serve half of a cake.  Maybe you can, but it doesn't look very thoughtful if you do.  My solution...making something new--Cake Balls!

I decided to take this leftover cake, crumble it, and mix it with some frosting to make cake balls.  I scooped the mixture out with an ice cream scoop to form a nice round ball.

I then rolled it in powdered sugar to add some interest and flavor.

Then stacked them into a pyramid and to create a lovely presentation.  Be sure to refrigerate these until you are ready to serve.  They hold their shape best when cool.

What once was store bought is now a thoughtful homemade treat!  Your guests will never know the difference....unless they read my blog (sorry family for ruining the secret)!

Features from Week 10 {Re}create

Thanks to everyone who linked up last week!  It is such fun to get to see all you've been doing!  I have been really bad about featuring some of the incredible links and I really want to get better at that...so here it goes!

This week I guess I was just into paper related crafts!  Here are my favs!

Life With the Ellwoods had a post on these darling paper flower balls made out of old books.  I just love them.  The texture is great and of course I love using old books in crafts.  Its a winner!

Pressed Down, Shaken Together shared her coffee filter bunting.  It is just darling!  She uses stained and clean filters with scrapbooking paper to achieve this great look.

Thanks so much for all of your great entires!  Can't wait to see what you all share this week!

Poolry

Who doesn't love jewelry?  I certainly do.  It makes a world of difference when added properly to an outfit.

Well the same is true at the pool!  There is nothing more fabulous than adding jewelry to your bathing suit...I like to call it "poolry!"  Jewelry + Pool = Poolry.

While we were in Vegas it was all about the poolry!  Each suit was accompanied by a little bling.

Big earrings, stacked bracelets, and rings are a big part of poolry. Necklaces, in my opinion, are more optional, but still can play an important part when paired with the right option.

Bling at the pool is definitely fabulous.  Can you tell I miss summer?

Splash Proof!

I know its the end of October, but I'm in summer mood again!  Vegas, the sun, and the pool have me in a different mindset.  I'm home again, but still wishing I could go lay out and enjoy some sun.

One of the things (okay the only thing) I hate about being out in sun near the water is when your reading materials get wet!  You throw a wet towel in your bag or sit too close to the splash zone, and your magazines and books get all wrinkly.  This is no good!  Therefore I thought it necessary to create a protective cover.  Let me present to you my little Splash Proof cover!

This little puppy is the perfect cover to transport your magazines and books to the pool.  It is made out of vinyl which makes it water proof.  I simply stitched this together in the shape of an envelope on my sewing machine and it was ready to go to Vegas!  The inside is soft and fuzzy which makes it a great cover for something a little more delicate such as your iPad.  Keeping your reading supplies in this little cover not only protects them from the water, but also from being bent or damaged as they are transported with everything else to the pool.

So I know that water and the sun may seem like a distant memory for some of you where snow has already begun to fall, but perhaps this can give you a glimpse of something warmer to look forward to.  I know it was a wonderful solution for me this past week.

Viva Las Vegas!

I would like to interrupt our normal broadcasting to bring you Vegas!

That's right ladies and gentlemen, Josh and I are in the beautiful Las Vegas on his Price is Right trip!  Fall is being put on hold and all things warm and sunny are back!  I feel like it is summer all over again and of course this summer girl is loving it!

Here's a quick photo update of what's been going on with us!

Last night we got here and headed out to do a little exploring.

Today we enjoyed some time in the sun at the pool.

Earlier tonight we went and saw Viva Elvis by Cirque Du Soleil-Thanks Price is Right!  It was a fabulous show and we got to take a photo with two of the cast members.

It's almost midnight so we are are going to go hit the town!
(We'll see how long that lasts)

Because after all the fortune cookie said..."an enjoyable vacation is awaiting you."

So I'm out!

Cardiff by the Sea

A week ago Josh and I got away and as we prepare to leave again tomorrow, I can't help but reflect back on the lovely one night getaway we took last week.  There is this little spot an hour south of us in San Diego called Cardiff by the Sea Lodge which we love to escape to.

This cute little bed and breakfast is darling.  Each room is individually decorated and we stayed in the Victorian room.  It was certainly very Victorian!  I loved the stylish chandelier in our room!

One of the best parts about this getaway is the rooftop deck!  Up on the roof there are gorgeous views of the ocean.  You can enjoy the jacuzzi or the fire pit while looking out over the beautiful coast.

The scenic view is truly lovely.

This is a shot of the cute lobby.  Very shabby chic if I might add!

It is truly a picturesque place to escape from the business of life.  Last week we needed a little time to refocus and spend quality time together without distractions of a busy life.  So if you are looking to go somewhere charming, I would certainly consider this delightful getaway!

{Re}create Into Something New #9

The past few days have been rather sleepy!  I've had a cold had have slept the week away.  I just finially posted my jewelry box I made earlier this weekend (before the cold hit) and saw that it was Wednesday.  Needless to say I apologize for not getting my party up earlier today.

Today I'd like to feature a few of my favorites from last week's party!

Fancy Frugal Life's DIY Vintage Graphic Candles are delightful!
She even explains how to print on fabric.

Spittin Toad's Burlap Bench Transformation was a lovely creation!
Along with some fall accents it is a perfect seasonal piece.
