Milky Bottle

As I mentioned the other day, I have a thing for bottles recently.  I prepped a bunch of them to  be able to work with them and I just finished my first experiment!

I've been wanting to paint a bottle from the inside for quite some time.  I saw the idea when I was wedding planning a couple of years ago and I just tucked it away.  Yesterday I finally gave it a whirl!

I took the vinegar bottle from the other day and got to work.

I put a little water in the bottom of the bottle to thin out the paint.  Turns out it ended up being a bit too much and so I had to dump a good portion of it out half way through.

I grabbed a can of wall paint (my paint of preference simply because I can be cheap) and....

...A Starbucks' straw...

....and got to work!
I dipped the straw into the paint, filling it with paint, and then released it into the bottle (a trick I learned as a little girl who liked to play with her straw and soda).

Of course it was a little messy, because it is me.
I had to wipe down the outside of the paint dripped bottle.

There were a few spots where paint was not covering the bottle.

So I flipped it upside down and let it sit for a couple hours while I went out to dinner with my mom and sister.

And it worked!  The entire bottle was then covered with paint.
It reminds me of milk bottle glass which is a favorite of mine.

I'm glad I figured out the process and now I'll be repeating it a few times with some other bottles and colors!

  1. Milk glass is my faves!!! I have to try this. Another had did it with pink paint too. Love it!

  2. How clever - I would not have thought of doing this, and the end result looks great! - Lisa Skinner

  3. That is just the coolest thing! And believe me, I have paint laying around here! How cool to be able to tie decor together in that way... time to dig out the bottles and get to work! Thanks for posting! jules

  4. Very cute! I painted bottles a few months back, too. It's amazing what a little paint will do! ;)
Thank you so much for linking this up to {nifty thrifty things} last week!
I hope to see you again tomorrow! ;)
